Lipoproteins are proteins in the blood that carry fats and cholesterol through the blood stream. OxLDL is the term for low density lipoproteins (LDL) that have been modified by oxidative processes. Once modified, oxLDL has been associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). As such, oxLDL may be used to evaluate risk of CVD or as a marker of oxidative stress within the body.
